Reactive Emergency Response

Barnehurst – Cutting Failure Emergency Response Project

This emergency job took place on Network Rail South East Route. We were commissioned by our client BAM Nuttall in assisting them in completing the emergency landslip works at Barnehurst, South East London. Our Emergency Response Teams were on site within 3 hours. We removed a number of tree’s and just over 400 tonnes of bankslip spoil. The slip was removed and the king post wall installation completed.

Farringdon Tunnel Flooding – Emergency Response Call-Out

These call-out works took place on the Thameslink Route. This was an emergency call out from our customer, who were working for Thames Water after a 16 inch water main burst. Circa 500,000 litres of water removed from the flooded tunnel. Teams worked round the clock on 12 hour shifts to safely achieve the objectives. “Lost” outfall and trash screen located and cleaned to allow the free flow of water. The potential risk to passenger services from track flooding was greatly reduced by removing long term blockages and identifying where the outfall was.

Forest Hill – Emergency Response Sinkhole

A large, six-meter deep hole developed in a sewerage pipe underneath the track at Forest Hill disrupting Southern Rail services in and out of London Bridge during rush hour. We were instructed by Thames Water and Network Rail to help coordinate and deliver an urgent response and ensure disruption to commuter services was minimised. Pro Rail Services provided the following services: CCTV survey teams to investigate the state of the pipe and report on the integrity of other areas of the pipe. Civils teams to facilitate support the survey of the affected area and support to the on-site NR team. Coordinated the management of the response with the senior management teams of Thames Water and Network Rail.

Hersham Station Embankment – Emergency Response Call-Out

These call-out works took place on the Wessex Route. This was an emergency call out from our customer, who were working for Thames Water. A Thames Water sewer had created a 10m diameter x 15m deep sink hole near the base of the railway embankment. We attended site and executed the following activities; site compound mobilisation, tree felling and devegetation to facilitate the implementation of slope monitoring, installation of targets to execute track monitoring. A track and slope monitoring regime was agreed with the NR Wessex Geotech RAM whereby surveys were executed every three hours and subsequent reports issued to NR Wessex Asset Protection, NR Wessex Geotech RAM and Thames Water, which was executed over a nine week period. This monitoring regime provided assurance to NR that the railway could remain open and therefore not negatively impact passenger service.
