Project Management Consultancy

Our expertise helps turn railway infrastructure-related objectives and challenges into solutions that add value to land, property, and infrastructure assets.

Our services

We work with clients such as Network Rail, Amey, Balfour Beatty Rail, Siemens, VolkerFitzpatrick and Manchester Airport Group to create a vision, scope and brief that are viable and deliverable through our collaborative management service tailored to our clients contract needs.

Project development

Our significant 25 year project development experience allows us to focus on issues that drive viability and our understanding of how to address constraints and challenges in a time-pressured railway infrastructure environment means we are well placed to deliver.

Our team of expert project development managers are focused on clients’ delivery with the drive and ambition to achieve the best possible returns and outcomes from every project.

By establishing clear goals, outcomes, and deliverables at the start, we work with our clients to create a detailed development management strategy that encompasses all anticipated activities to allow them to achieve their contractual obligations.

We then model delivery through team procurement, concept, railway access agreements, detailed design and railway assurance, construction procurement and works through a roadmap that guides clients, teams, and stakeholders through this complex process on major projects.

We understand the importance of knowledge and how a project evolves through iterative design that is informed by constraints, underpinned by evidence, and challenged through real value creation.

By working through robust project stages that address all aspects of the project we enable concepts, schemes and solutions that are effective yet innovative, informed and deliverable.

Our approach

Programme management

Over the last few years our programme management expertise has helped clients to improve performance, drive major project delivery and realise efficiencies.

We are adept at helping our clients navigate through ambiguity – managing multiple workstreams, interdependencies, and driving and configuring complex programmes from integrated projects.

We have the experience to deliver a course of action that manages the priority themes of the programme alongside risk, time, cost and quality; the leadership to inspire and motivate teams; and the passion and enthusiasm to drive value at every turn. By providing strong, expert leadership from the start, we give clients the level of confidence and assurance that they require. We develop programme delivery methodologies that are robust, transparent and based on experience drawn from large scale projects around the world.

Integration with client teams

For many of our longer-term programmes our teams are fully integrated in the clients’ organisation. Here we bring our robust processes, procedures and methodologies and work with our clients to set the governance framework and project controls to manage the change. In the UK railway industry we’re working as an extension of Network Rail and 40% of their major Tier 1 contractors, providing a programme management office (PMO) for the mobilisation of Control Period 7.

Our people integrate with our clients on all projects providing a range of project and programme, cost and commercial and technical services to ensure they are delivered in a sustainable and effective manner.

Construction management

Our construction team has delivered over 175 construction management projects worldwide. Pro Rail Services is as much based on the principle of construction management and finding a better way of delivering for clients, today as it was when the company was founded in 2012.

Quality

Quality is a priority across the board. It is considered at every step. Direct access to specialists allows for more fresh thinking, innovation and value engineering. The ultimate flexibility and ability to spend more time in the design and procurement phases also means that there is more control over the end product as per our UKAS accredited ISO9001.

A partnership of equals

Construction management on railway infrastructure projects allows us to enter into true partnerships with our clients and the rest of the professional team, acting in their interest and managing every element of the project through design, procurement and selection and beyond to delivery. This allows for the best of both worlds, enabling us to manage design and procurement through to driving towards successful delivery.

Working as an integrated team

The strength of construction management lies in one word: opportunity. It gives us the opportunity to overlap or integrate packages and, in doing so, creating greater programme efficiency. In addition to this, the opportunity to accelerate work packages helps to safeguard that all important programme end date, while better interface management and scoping means fewer ‘surprises’ that can cause delays.

An integrated team is a benefit to a project’s bottom line, not just because of the fully integrated design and construction process, but also because it reduces organisation costs. The project team can maintain control of risk rather than pay a premium, and the collaborative approach means that there is a reduced potential for claims.

Asset protection

Pro Rail Services as a UK Railway Principal Contractors Licence Holder retains significant experience of managing third party access requests to the UK railway infrastructure and provides a full turnkey service so that the third party, which we define as our client, can execute the required project.

Clients include but are not limited to: Thames Water Utilities Ltd, Manchester Airports Group, various residential estate and retail developers plus energy / major utility providers.

Through our asset management team and subject matter experts in whole life, sustainability and stakeholder management we support our clients to drive superior outcomes whether this is to achieve the development of a railway asset register, net zero carbon, to improve social value, or to optimize utilisation.

We do this by creating a digital platform that creates a transparent asset register, a defined inspection and assessment regime, providing competent asset managers to assess and prioritise maintenance or capital projects work bank and to ensure that all asset management strategies comply with company standards.

Rail systems engineering

Efficient introduction of modern railway assets that cater to the diverse needs of both commuters and railway operators necessitates skilled management across engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance, and their interfaces.

At Pro Rail Services our team comprises of specialist engineers and systems operators, complemented by data analytics expertise and 10 years’ corporate experience in delivering systems engineering projects. Our collective expertise enables us to get under the bonnet of clients’ railway systems.

Our approach

While we meticulously attend to the finer details, we never lose sight of the overarching perspective – the ‘System of Systems.’ This holistic approach empowers us to guide our clients through the complexities of system integration, delivering tangible value to both them and the railway’s end-users.

We firmly believe that effective systems integration, requirements definition, and system assurance cannot be achieved from behind desk. Our team has hands on experience delivering numerous major international projects, commissioning new control systems, and introducing new operational railway stations seamlessly into operational service.
